As part of my role, the skills and knowledge to safely drive both a 4x4 and LUV on farm and other various terrains, is a requirement. I completed a 3 days course with Gene Brown.
With some limited knowledge across the group about vehicles in ‘off road’ situations, Gene’s presentation was easily understood, and provided an excellent adult learning environment.
Practically in the field, we were provided with gradual increments in challenging terrain, to develop and try skills, to increase confidence in ourselves and the vehicles. We were pushed outside our own comfort zones, but safe at all times. Whilst clearly Gene is very highly skilled in this area, at no time did we as learners feel, our questions or learning were an inconvenience.
Gene shared extra knowledge around trailers (towing), and general vehicle safety throughout the course, to increase our knowledge on best practice and safety, for general motoring as well.
Highly recommend this course for anyone wanting to increase their skills.

This is to place on record my appreciation of the work Gene Browne of DTTS has carried out for the Laingholm Volunteer Fire Brigade. We run a Fuso Canter 4WD and a John Deere Gator ATV which are both equipped for rural fire fighting, especially in off-road situations.
Thanks to Gene's excellent tutoring the skills of our members have risen considerably and I feel confident that they can now operate safely in off-road situations.
In addition Gene has made helpful suggestions about the setting up of both vehicles, based on his wide experience in the area. I have no hesitation in recommending Gene and his firm.

The Selwyn Civil Defence Team engaged Gene of DTTS to provide some 4wd training. We covered a number of unit standards and practical driving. Gene delivered this information in a clear and concise way and kept the information relevant to the needs that we have. He is very engaging and knowledgeable but still able to speak to the audience. On the practical side Gene passed the information along in a very relaxed but professional way. Comments from some of the team that attended the two days were; best training days I have had, absolutely enjoyed that, it was way better then I expected, leant more then I expected. As a driver trainer myself I would thoroughly endorse DTTS as a provider. Thanks for the two days and we will get you back again.

Gene spent two days providing driver training for our entire team from the office and the mine site. He knew what he was talking about and used lots of real life stories to make his presentation more relevant. He held the attention of everyone throughout the initial presentation and discussion and the following practical driving sessions. It had snowed on the day he arrived so this was great for the practical driving sessions. Using our work vehicles meant we could learn about the various vehicle functions and how and when to use them. I would thoroughly recommend Gene as a trainer for other workplaces.

A surprisingly brilliant course. I was concerned going into the course that it would be a boring academic telling me how to drive a tractor. Having driven and operated machinery of varying sizes and duties for years I was worried. However Gene is very good at what he does and also a quite entertaining, able to cater for every level and keep everyone involved. Even I was able to take a bit away from his teachings and also fix my bad habits that we all adopt. Gene also introduced a simplified approach to the onsite training. I would happily recommend DTTS services.

I learned a lot on both the tractor and chainsaw courses, even having used both for a long time beforehand.
Gene is very knowledgeable and is willing to answer any questions. He keeps the courses fun and it flows well.

What a fantastic course that was! Theory day was very good - not book taught like other courses. Very informative and engaging. Theory was totally transferred to practical day too. Which was also super useful and fun.

Just wanted to pass on that I was very impressed with the 4wd course – my expectations were very much exceeded. Gene has a huge amount of knowledge that he is able to convey in a fun, easy to understand way and is incredibly encouraging of all participants - providing excellent instruction with a great degree of patience. The theory day helped a lot with understanding how the vehicles work, which gave an essential foundation as to how to drive the vehicles in different situations on the practical day. I feel like I have a much better grasp now on their limitations and importantly, what they are capable of.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Gene Browne. We toured New Zealand together conducting Four Wheel Drive Training and Quad Training to NZQA standards. I was very impressed with Gene carrying out the theory component in the classroom. He is an experienced lecturer and public speaker therefore he was able to explain in great detail, using different analogies as required, various components of vehicle systems. His vast knowledge gained from competition in Four Wheel Drive events but also his knowledge of Traffic Regulations is superior to most Instructors.
Gene has an aura about him not only in the classroom but also in the field. He can take charge of any situation immediately. This was proven in February 2015 when we were requested to assist with a Tag Along 4WD Tour. During the tour a vehicle crashed down a tree covered bank. Gene immediately controlled the crash scene delegating First Aid personnel, securing the crash site and recovery of the crashed vehicle.
Gene is the consummate, professional Instructor anybody could wish to have conducting their training, individually or in a group situation.
Words alone cannot express or demonstrate the abilities and knowledge and experience that Gene is able to bring to a classroom or field/practical instruction, it must be experienced itself.
In conclusion I have no hesitation in providing this recommendation of Dr. Gene Browne for Theory and/or Practical Driver Training.

We engaged Gene as a senior 4WD trainer from AMS group to improve our knowledge and health and safety in the variable off-road work conditions we encounter daily. We had difficulty finding a trainer that could work around our needs and staffing requirements, that is until we came across Gene. He managed to work within our requirements to provide customised training sessions that were both informative and entertaining. The theory was explained in real terms that our team of different ages, ethnicities and abilities were able to understand. The practical was carried out professionally and safely allowing the team the freedom to trust the trainer’s knowledgeable instructions as we navigated the challenging terrains. Even the most hesitant among us gained the confidence to complete the training.
The post-training response from our staff was that it was a positive, team building course. Health and safety became a focus with the team working together to implement changes. Annual refreshers have been organised for this essential training requirement.
